Anther fella on a different board described a minor modification to the loading lever latch that solved the problem. The rifle I am using for inspiration is #81 shown in RCA vol 1. It is maple stocked but the patch box and carving are very similar to the mahogany stocked rifles. I have bent a couple by doing the following; Remove the hammer, place the hole area in a vise, heat the neck area to red with torch, bend as needed, then allow to cool before removing from the vise. I like to use and adjustable wrench sized down to fit just over the cup area so I have some control over the bend.Reducing width by 25% reduces spring strength by 25%. Thinning by narrowing reduces strength proportionally. Thinning reduces strength relative to the square of the thickness. 3/4 times 3/4 = 9/16. 4/4 times 4/4 =16/16 or one (unchanged). 16/16 minus 9/16 = 7/16 loss or 43% loss.get my patch material from JoAnne's Fabric Store. If the bore shows reamer marks across the rifling that may be the problem. If it's smooth then it's something else wrong, like the lube. A Farmingdale NY, Model 100 (stamped on the barrel), #2 Sporter in .54, 30” barrel. Read somewhere that Wolfgang Droege only made six of these, not sure how true that is.There was an unfired 54 caliber Flintlock Trade Rifle marked JP Henry. I got confused. At first, I thought it was a factory copy. I forgot that the original gun would have been JJ Henry. A quick internet search came up with Jim Searles' JP Gunstocks company out of Las Vegas, NV. I met Jim a couple of times at Rendezvous in Southern California.Both rifles are Investarm rifles, the flintlock is a Lyman Great Plains Rifle and the percussion is a Cabela's .58 caliber Hawken. I'm thinking about swapping out the percussion breech plug on one rifle for the flintlock breech plug on another. The flintlock is .50 caliber and the percussion is .58 caliber. I would start casting on a Saturday morning and stop around 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon.First, @TrippyMcGuire556 should remove the nipples. Apply Kroil or a mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid to penetrate the rust. Use a sturdy nipple wrench and tap the end while turning to loosen the nipple.
