Programming is a breeze. Handles simulcast better than any other scanner out there. The ONLY Uniden scanner that does not require power to the GPS is the SDS200 with the SGPS module, it is powered directly from the SDS200.I noticed the SDS100 has a dedicated battery pack so that is a buzzkill compared to AA batteries I'm used to. I will be required to purchase an extra battery and charger. However, after a couple lengthy trips to Uniden Repair, I was given a factory refurbished unit as a replacement to my original. The old scanners worked fine with a amplified speaker plugged in the headphone jack. Normally, they should last a least a few weeks to a few months if the main battery is dead. If the main battery is dead I've had mine work fine 6mo+ later. The Sentinel update to 2.03 went fine and now has the new tuning steps for custom searches, but I don't have any need for them. If it makes any difference, I updated Sentenel first. They work great on simulcast systems while other radios will have difficulties.
